Methodology
Every figure is derived from official statistics and carries its own source, period and grade.
Sources
- Pay & employment: HMRC PAYE Real Time Information, published by ONS (Earnings and employment from PAYE RTI). Payrolled-employee headcount and median monthly pay, ingested on release day.
- Real pay: median pay deflated by CPIH (the ONS consumer-prices index including owner-occupiers' housing costs).
- Cost of living: ONS CPI item price indices, assembled into everyday/leisure baskets and priced at the area's CPI region.
- Healthy life expectancy: ONS Health State Life Expectancies (2022–2024), at birth, by sex, benchmarked against England.
Geography
Figures are served at the most specific grain available for each place — local authority or coterminous ITL3 — and each page states its publication grain. Cost-of-living baskets are priced at the area's CPI region (disclosed on the page), not the town. Where a figure is served from a parent geography, the page says so.
Revisions & vintage
Recent months are provisional and revised in later ONS releases; each page always shows the latest published value and states its own data period. Because LAD-level pay is released quarterly while ITL3 advances monthly, mixed vintages across places are normal and are labelled, not hidden.
Precision & grades
WageSight does not round: figures render at the precision the source provides. Each figure carries a grade (A/B solid; C modelled/extrapolated; D limited) and a stable claim id linking it to its source lineage.
Reuse
Figures are free to reuse with attribution — see licence & attribution. The full back-series and machine-readable access are available via the Grounding connector.
